Can AI search actually read your website?
ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google’s AI recommend businesses every day. This checks whether they can read yours, and what is holding you back.
What this checks, and why it matters
Can AI crawlers reach you at all
ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google’s AI read the web with named crawlers. Plenty of sites block them without realising, through a blanket robots.txt rule or a bot-blocker default. If GPTBot cannot fetch your pages, nothing else you do will get you quoted.
Whether your structured data actually counts
Structured data is how you state what your business is in a format engines trust. The catch most tools miss: if yours is added by JavaScript, answer engines generally never see it. It looks perfect in a browser and counts for nothing. We read the raw HTML, so we catch that.
How fast your changes get picked up
A sitemap with real lastmod dates tells crawlers what changed instead of making them guess. IndexNow can push updates to Bing, and therefore Copilot and ChatGPT’s search index, in minutes rather than weeks.
The technical basics underneath
Titles, meta descriptions, headings, canonicals, redirect chains and alt text. None of it is glamorous, and a page that fails here will not be quoted by anything, however good the content is.
Common questions
How do I know if ChatGPT can read my website?
Check whether your robots.txt blocks GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot. Many sites block them by accident through a blanket rule or a bot-blocker default, which makes it impossible to be cited in ChatGPT no matter how good the content is. This tool checks those agents plus PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended and Bingbot.
Why does structured data matter for AI search?
Structured data tells engines what your business is, what you sell and who you are, in a format they trust rather than one they have to infer from your prose. Without it, answer engines guess, and they often guess wrong or skip you entirely.
Why would my schema not count if it looks fine in the browser?
If your structured data is added by JavaScript after the page loads, most answer engines never see it, because they generally do not run JavaScript. It looks perfect when you inspect the page and counts for nothing. This tool reads the raw HTML, so it catches that.
What is AEO and how is it different from SEO?
SEO aims to rank a page in a list of blue links. AEO, answer engine optimization, aims to be the source an AI quotes when it answers a question directly. The technical groundwork overlaps, but AEO depends far more on machine-readable structured data, crawler access, and being cited by third-party sources.
How quickly can search engines pick up changes to my site?
That depends on your sitemap and how you announce changes. A sitemap with accurate lastmod dates tells crawlers what changed, and IndexNow can push updates to Bing, and therefore Copilot and ChatGPT's search index, within minutes rather than waiting for a crawl.
Is this checker free?
Yes, and there is no signup. It reads only the public pages of the address you give it, and shows the full result on screen.
